There are no breaks in mommyhood

Hello everyone!  How I've missed you so!  It's been rough around here at my house.  Peanut went from having an ear infection to a really bad stomach virus.  He was then kind enough to pass it onto me, so we spent the last week and a half sick as can be!  To make matters worse, my husband also got sick, which meant no down time for mommy.:(

But things are starting to get better and hey - I lost 4 pounds so at least there's a bright side!  lol

If you follow Casey's blog, you saw all the beautiful finished swing dresses.  Unfortunately, I'm a bit behind due to all the sickness, but I am almost there - just need to add sleeves and hem the skirt and I will be done!

I cut my head off - I do not look good sick!

I will be out and about visiting your blogs today - sorry I haven't been around much!  Hope you all have  a wonderful Tuesday!

A side project - the Pendrell blouse

So I have finished all but the skirt and sleeves on my swing dress - not much has changed since last week's sew along update.  Why you ask?  Well, I ended up having to scrap the first bodice due to fit issues (these things happen when you accidentally throw away your muslin...lol) and start over.  After that I had to order some more fabric, which then got lost in the mail and somehow ended up in Washington state.  So it should FINALLY arrive today and I will HOPEFULLY finish this darn thing by next week.

In it's place, however, I did make a lovely summer blouse yesterday using the Pendrell blouse pattern by the lovely Tasia of Sewaholic

Blouse - self made, Jeans - Express

It's her first pattern I think she did an amazing job!  Plus, I was able to make it in a few hours which is even better!

Now if only the weather would warm up so I could wear this outdoors. :)

Sew Along update - the bodice is finished!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day!  I got to spend some quality time with my two favorite boys so it was a great one for me!  :)

So I am a bit behind on my dress as I have been crazy busy planning this Winter Fest party but I did manage to finish the bodice over the weekend.  I got a bit held up though - you know the cliche "my dog ate my homework"?  Well, my son chewed my facing pattern piece.   I thought the pattern pieces were safe on my couch, but my son decided at that moment to learn how to pull himself up on the couch, grab the pattern and stick it in his mouth!  The funny thing is, I was so excited he pulled himself up, I didn't even care that a piece of my pattern now looked like mush. :)  So after drafting a new facing piece, here is what I have so far:

So far so good!!  I love the fabric so much and I'm hoping to finish it in time to wear to the party!

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming

First of all, thank you guys SOO much for the well wishes!!  My husband and I are feeling better and Peanut is almost there.  He's so cute - even though he's sick he's still in the best of spirits!  It was a long week with little sleep and lots of coddling (for both my son and husband :) ) but I did manage to get some work done on my Swing dress!!  My muslin is almost done although I still need to do a bit of adjusting.

All the pieces are cut out and up on the couch away from Peanut's grasp

The hardest part was the shoulder yoke but Casey posted
a great tutorial so I finally figured it out!

The bust is too big and I have to take the hem up
A LOT but so far so good...

All I have to do now is add the sleeves and make my adjustments
and then I can start cutting my fabric!

Sew Along - The fabric is here!

So my fabric has come in for the sew along and I am so excited!  I got a few options for the men's shirt:

Both are 100% cotton shirting.  I think I'm going to start with the check print since the pattern is for more of a casual shirt - thoughts?

For the 40's swing dress, I chose this super pretty rayon challis -

I also picked up some cotton lawn fabric but I think I'm going to save it for some light summer blouses.

(The one on the right is more of a lime green
but it doesn't seem to photograph that well!)

I am starting the muslin for the swing dress this week so I will have an update next Monday.

Sorry for the short post today but I am hosting a dinner party tonight - more on that (and my outfit!) tomorrow! :)

Happy Monday everyone!

Merrily we Sew Along...

Ever since I got my new sewing machine back in December, I have been sewing up a storm!  There is nothing better than seeing an outfit you like and making it yourself.  Since I am always up for a challenge, I have entered TWO Sew Alongs from two of my favorite sewing blogs.

The first sew along is being hosted by the ever so fabulous Peter of Male Pattern Boldness where we will be sewing my first ever men's shirt.  My husband is thrilled to be getting a custom shirt - I just hope I make him proud!

The second one is a 1940's style Swing Dress sew along hosted by the always beautiful Casey of Casey's Elegant Musings.  I have always been drawn to clothing from this era because it fits my body so well so I am REALLY excited to make this dress!
