As I previously said here, I am all about the smoky eye for fall.  Unfortunately, the traditional black just doesn't work for the average person during the day.  However, using colors that have a deeper tone to them such as eggplant, forest green and navy, tones the look down so it can be worn day or night.  In order to keep the look playground appropriate, I place the shadow starting at the lash line all the way up to, but not above, the crease.  I then brush a vanilla colored shadow in the crease up to the brow for a subtle contrast and then line the eye in a shade slightly deeper than the shadow color.  Finish with a swipe of mascara and voila!  A quick and easy smoky eye that looks right no matter what the occasion.  If you want a little more drama at night, go a bit heavier on the liner and bring the shadow into the crease.
Right now my favorite color combinations are purple/eggplant, deep teal/forest green and mauve/chocolate brown.

What is your favorite makeup tip for transitioning into fall?

  1. "playground appropriate" LOL, so true!

I will have to try the smokie eye in some of those colours. You are right about black and grey being too much for the day! Esp. for the park!
